Birth of the belly band!
Presentation is everything, so it’s said. But how can you highlight your branding and package your product in a more sustainable way, without plastics and polythene? That was a problem several of our clients wanted to solve, so back in January 2021 we looked into various options – and came up with our belly bands.
Wrapped around oven gloves, tea towels or aprons, for example, they really look the business and being made of paper provide a completely recyclable, environmentally friendly solution. But producing them proved trickier than we first thought.
Initially, we looked at using external print suppliers but always felt we’d have more flexibility if we could produce them in-house, just like we do with all our other digital textile and fabric printing services. So we researched what we’d need, and in the end bought our own paper printing machinery and guillotine from local company GB Copiers, who also trained our team to use the equipment.
Our first belly bands were created as samples, using customers’ existing artwork and then submitted to them to see what their reaction would be. They proved so popular, we quickly created a template for customers to design their own!
Each belly band is printed on to thick white card sourced from a local company, and secured using double-sided tape. The feedback we get is that customers love the finishing touch it provides – and better still, it means they can put their new stock straight out on the shelves as soon as it arrives.
